Figures

The image of the human form is powerful, inviting us to experience and relate to the many emotions, thoughts, longings, and intentions evoked by these Figures. We have held that gaze, crossed our arms, turned slightly away, hesitated, or rejoiced in a similar way. We know what that feels like. Or we realize there were deeper emotions in our own body than we knew at the time just by looking at the way this figure stands, stares, sighs. I find myself surprised at what I still find, in the painting, and in myself, every time I contemplate one of these figures.
